Storm Yiddish Edition by George R. Stewart

Translated by Barry Goldstein

Yiddish language text

For the first time in Yiddish George R. Stewart’s groundbreaking eco-novel Storm, a powerful tale of nature’s force and humanity’s fragile place within it.

Originally published in 1941, Storm was a literary first: a gripping, innovative novel that gave birth to the eco-novel genre. In a drought-stricken California, an unassuming meteorologist in San Francisco notices a subtle weather pattern forming over the Pacific. He quietly names it Maria a storm whose journey will soon reshape landscapes and lives across the continent.

Told through the eyes of weather watchers, workers, travelers, and even wildlife, Storm follows the relentless path of Maria as she delivers both salvation and destruction. Roads flood, snow piles high, power lines fall, and lives are forever changed in this sweeping portrait of nature’s might and unpredictability.

Now translated into Yiddish for the very first time, Storm brings Stewart’s visionary narrative to a new audience, enriching the legacy of a novel that’s as timely today as when it first appeared. A compelling read for lovers of literary fiction, environmental writing, and classic American storytelling now in the heart language of generations.
